Helldivers 2, everyone’s new favourite third-person cooperative shooter, has amassed a record-breaking number of players on Steam in a matter of days. If you want to protect and further the cause of managed democracy then you have your work cut out for you as skill and strategy alone will only get you so far against the Terminids and Automatons. Your combat effectiveness depends on the potency of your loadout and armor, i.e., you must grind hard to get the four different in-game currencies that allow you to unlock and upgrade different weapons, armor, and stratagems.
Helldivers 2 Currencies and What They Buy
For your first few dives, the Helldivers 2 currencies can feel a bit overwhelming, since there are a lot of them, each with its means of acquisition, and its purpose, not to mention they are hard to farm so you must be diligent about what you spend these currencies on. For now, let’s get you up to speed on where you can get your hands on these currencies and what they will buy you as you play Helldivers 2.
Here are separate explanations for each kind of the four different currencies in Helldivers 2:
Requisition Slips
Requisition slips, indicated by the “R”, are a key currency in Helldivers 2 as they will allow you to purchase new stratagems as you play the game. These new and powerful stratagems are essential additions to your arsenal as they include support weapons, orbital strikes, eagle strikes, and sentries. Each stratagem has distinct strengths and the potential to turn the tables of a losing fight if used at the appropriate moment. You will need to be very deliberate about completing as many objectives and orders as you can so that you can unlock all the stratagems.
Upon climbing the difficulty levels to get rarer samples, you will realize that base stratagems won’t be enough to get through the missions and you will need to upgrade the stratagems to get through. The point is that unlocking all stratagems is the bare minimum if you want to be able to tackle all the different mission types in the game.
How to get Requisition Slips in Helldivers 2:
You will get Requisition Slips for completing Primary mission objectives, Secondary mission objectives, and Major Order weekly missions.
Medals
Medals are also an important currency in Helldivers 2 since they will enable you to upgrade items in your kit such as armor, weapons, and cosmetics such as poses. Medals are used in the Warbond menu which is accessed from the Acquisition Centre. Medals can also be used to buy the premium currency of the game, Super Credits, which can then be used to unlock Premium Weapons in the Premium Warbonds. We recommend that in the interest of speedy progression at the beginning of your Helldiver career, you prioritize spending this currency on more useful items like better weapons and armor, and leave the cosmetics for later.
How to Medals in Helldivers 2:
The war table will show you how many medals you can get in a mission, generally, higher difficulty missions will give you the most medals. You can get medals for completing Primary and Secondary mission objectives, Operations, Personal Order daily missions, and Liberation of Crashed Drones on the planet’s surface.
Samples
Samples are the currency in Helldivers 2 that affords you that edge or boost that will get you through the missions at the highest difficulties, where skill alone falls short. Samples are classified into three types based on their rarity, namely green (common), orange (rare), and pink (super) samples. These samples will allow you to buy Ship Modules through the Ship Management computer. Ship Modules are upgrades for your ship, each of these modules belongs to a group of three modules, each group focusing on upgrading a particular class of stratagems.
You must unlock the ship modules in each group in succession, i.e., to get the next upgrade for a stratagem class in the group, you must pay its price in samples and have the previous module unlocked. Each successive ship module is pricier than it’s the last, i.e., in addition to more common green samples, you will have to shell out more of the rarer samples, depending on where you are in that particular group of ship modules.
How to samples in Helldivers 2:
Samples don’t require you to complete some objective in a sense, they require you to explore different areas of the map as you can find them lying around on the ground. That said, they are more frequently found near areas of interest like enemy hives and bases, as well as Secondary objective locations. The rarity of the samples you find depends on the difficulty of the mission you undertake, thereby forcing you to climb the difficulty ladder to maintain combat effectiveness.

You can buy Super Credits from the Acquisition Center for $1.99 (150 SC) to $19.99 (2100 SC). Super Credits can then be used to buy items in the SuperStore or to unlock Premium Warbonds. The premium warbond offers premium weapons and armour. At the moment, none of the weapons or armour offered by the premium warbond are significantly more powerful than the ones available from the free warbond.
How to Super Credits in Helldivers 2:
Super Credits can be bought using real-world cash or bought in-game using medals in the Warbonds. Buying Super Credits has an almost negligible advantage in terms of combat effectiveness for now. Nonetheless, the premium items can be unlocked without paying as well since Super Credits can also be found in-game, albeit they are rare and take considerable effort to get.
Super Credits can be found at points of interest in missions. These points show up as diamonds on the map, however, they sometimes won’t give you Super Credits, and other times they’ll give you loads. You can also find Super Credits in loot containers, armories, and bunkers. According to the developers, you can attain 10 to 40 Super Credits per mission if you explore diligently in your missions.
