Elden Ring Moonveil Katana Location and Build

Elden Ring is Easy

Moonveil Katana in Elden Ring is known for its versatile usage as a melee weapon for dexterity and intelligence-based builds alike. It’s a long sword that is more advantageous for swift attacks followed by a special skill, Transient Moonlight. Here is a detailed guide on how to get the Moonviel katana and what gear to select for a good build regarding this weapon.

How to get a Moonveil Katana?

Elden Ring Moonveil Katana Location and Build

Moonveil Katana is found inside the Gael Tunnel. This tunnel is located under a drop from the eastern side. Enter Caelid and stick towards the cliff or drop-down on the left. Keep sticking until you reach the end. From there, you’ll notice a small opening below you. Jump down and you’ll enter the Gael Tunnel.

If you can’t find this tunnel, you can also look for an orange bright rock point on the map.

Once inside, slowly jump down until you reach the site of grace. You can rest here as there are a lot of enemies in this tunnel especially if you plan to get the weapon.

Go straight ahead and then turn left into another tunnel. This will lead you to another drop and a site of grace. Up ahead you’ll notice a semi-closed space on the right. Head inside to start the fight against Magma Wyrm.

Magma Wym, as the name suggests, is a fire-based enemy. The best way to defeat it is to use ranged attacks and spells to avoid its fire. Defeat this site boss and it will drop two items; Dragon Heart and Moonveil Katana.

Best Moonveil Katana Build

Before moving to the build suggestions for Moonveil Katana, let’s look at its basic statistics. As Moonveil katana is a light weapon with swift attacks, a samurai or ninja build would suit it. For this purpose, the gear must be kept light with the most focus on stamina and speed.

RequirementsScalingAttackAttack TypeWeightSpecial Skill
Str 12 Dex 18 Int 23Str E Dex D Int CPhy 73 Mag 87Slash / Pierce Bleed buildup on hit6.5Transient Moonlight 12.5 Poise damage FP 15 – 20

According to these, Moonveil Katana would work best for Intelligence and Dexterity build with Strength as secondary. Also, its ability to Pierce would cause more damage to the target.

  • The higher the Dexterity, the more powerful the weapon would be due to its high scaling.
  • Intelligence would increase the spell casting which would in turn aid in its magic and special attack.
  • Vigor would be a good attribute to bump up as katana requires players to get into melee fights.
  • Endurance is needed to increase your stamina which would help in an agile build with the katana.

Weapons

Moonveil Katana is the main weapon around which other weapons can be arranged for the best build. There are several ways to go about this.

  • If you wish to wield double katanas, you can choose Uchigatana which scales similarly.
  • For staff, you can choose Meteorite Staff, an S-tier Intelligence build that would pair well with the Moonveil and spell casting. Carian Glintstone Staff is also a good choice for early gameplay.

For Talismans, you need the ones that offer similar effects like increased Dex and INT attributes or increased FP as this build would be magic-focused.

Armour

Any armor that is light and assists in magic is useful for the Moonveil Katana build. Black Knife Set is an option for a good overall defense and assists against any damage. It also is low in weight making sure your katana’s slashes can match your dodging abilities. Spellblade Set is another option that can increase the damage of Glintstone sorceries. This makes it useful for using powerful spells.

Queen’s Crescent Crown and Preceptor’s Big Hat are singular armor pieces that increase the intelligence attribute. For a more balanced item for protection and weight, the Black Hood is a good option that is found in Leyndell, Royal Capital.
