With the Elden Ring DLC out already, players are right back at the game. As known, Elden Ring allows players the choice of going with a full magic or melee build along with a combined build if interested. At the beginning of the game, the players are given a list of classes. If you want to go for a magic-centred build, Astrologer is the one for you. Here’s a guide on how to build your astrologer character in the Elden Ring.
Early Game Astrologer Build
Class Selection and Character Customization
After selecting the Astrologer class, during the Character Creation, select Golden Seed as your Keepsake. This will give you an additional Flask. Once you have created your character and entered the lands between, the first thing you need to focus on levelling up. As an Astrologer Build is mainly focused on magic, prioritize getting your Intelligence points to 40 as soon as possible. For the rest, make sure to increase Vigor and Mind to increase your HP and FP
Attribute Distribution for Astrologer at Level 40-55
Once you start the game, it can be a bit hard to tell where you are supposed to go. We recommend avoiding the major boss fights like the Tree Sentinel and Margit the Fell Omen.
Instead try to explore the world and go after the mini bosses in caves and dungeons. You can also make your way over to Caelid and kill the big momma dragon Greyoll in Caelid for easy 50000-95000 runes.
To get the best out of this Astrologer Build in Elden Ring, your attributes should look something like this during the early part of the game:
- Vigor: 20
- Mind: 20-25
- Endurance: 10-15
- Strength: 8 (don’t need to increase it )
- Dexterity: 15
- Intelligence: 30-40
- Faith: 7
- Arcane: 9
Make sure to prioritize FP flasks rather than HP flasks. As this build focuses on casting spells, you don’t need much replenishment of HP. This would allow you to exchange HP flasks with FP ones as they are needed more.
Weapons
In the beginning, the Astrologer is equipped with a staff that can be used to cast basic spells. You don’t need a better weapon unless you plan to use some melee abilities. Instead, get yourself a Dagger or Rapier from a merchant found all over the map. These may help deal slight damage to closer enemies in some instances.
A good weapon you can get a bit later is the Meteorite Staff. Once you enter the Caelid region, look for the Swamp of Aeonia and you’ll find it there. With an S-tier rating in intelligence, it is one of the best to use from early to mid-game easily.
Sorceries
Now for Sorceries, go to the Sorceress Sellen found in Waypoint Ruins at the beginning of the game. The two soreceries that are useful and can be bought there are Glintstone Pebble and Glintstone Arc.
- Glintstone Pebble is a single shot focus on one enemy and can deal significant damage.
- Glintstone Arc is a slash which can affect any enemy standing in its way.
Armour
Lastly, for armor, make sure to keep light to medium armor on. The good examples are the Wanderer Set and Leather Set which both can be found at the beginning of the game in Limgrave by defeating enemies.
The Astrologer build doesn’t need much defense as most magic spells are ranged. Instead, focus more on getting good talismans and weapons that can aid in casting more successful and powerful spells.
Mid-Game Build: Getting Powerful
Now going into the much more difficult section, you need to have much higher attributes and a collection of spells to get you through the game. An increase in the Intelligence attributes along with mind is the priority. Intelligence should be at least 45+ and mind at 25+. This would greatly assist in spellcasting.
You don’t need to increase Strength and Faith unless you want to as these assist in melee builds.
With more spells to equip, you’ll need to increase the Memory Slots. For this, search for Memory Stones found in treasure chests in the towers shown above.
Other than that, get Talismans that can aid in spells. Graven-Mass Talisman and Magic Scorpion Charm increase the magic damage. The Radagon Icon also speeds up the spell casting by reducing casting time. Additionally, make sure to have a supply of Cerulean and Crimson Tears for HP and FP increase whenever needed.
Weapons
You can either upgrade your early-game weapons into the mid-game or get some new ones that work better for the Astrologer to build in the Elden Ring. After defeating the Nox bosses, you get the Lusat’s Glintstone Staff. This is an intelligence-based staff but increases the FP cost in exchange for higher damage. If you are looking for a much simpler staff, you can choose the Academy Flintstone Staff found in the Raya Lucaria Academy. This has no drawbacks and works like any other staff.
It’s better to keep a light melee weapon and for that, the Rogier’s Rapier is a good choice. This weapon comes with a skill that targets the enemies from a distance.
At this point, it’s better to upgrade your armor and weapons with Smithing Stones. This lets the players carry less weight from armor and weapons and focus on spell casting and related items that increase the FP when needed.
Sorceries
For sorceries, Rock Sling and Carian Slicer are good additions. Rock Sling can be found in a cellar on the northern side of the Street of Sages Ruins. This spell launches three stones towards the intended target causing significant damage.
The Carian Slicer is a different type of spell. This attack summons a long sword that deals quick and high damage to the closest target. Even though this is a spell, it works as a melee attack due to its proximity to effect the enemy. To get this attack get the scroll from the roof near the starting point and give it to Sorceress Sellen in the Waypoint Ruins. Some other worthy sorceries you should get are:
- Loretta’s Greatbow
- Comet
- Scholar’s Shield
Armor
As the game progresses, you’ll need a little bit more defense and for that, armor sets that are light but assist your spell casting. The Snow Witch Set is found in the chest located on the upper floor of Renna’s Rise. The Prophet’s Robe Set is another good choice found in the Land Between.
Late Game Astrologer Build
As we approach the end-game in Elden ring, the only thing that matters in this Astrologer build now is to boost any attribute that is possible. This depends on the type of build you want to go with. Make sure to reach 60 on intelligence followed by Mind, Vigor, and Endurance for HP, FP, and stamina
Weapons
For weapons, you can either keep and upgrade your Lusat’s Glintstone Staff which would still work best for most of the spells, or opt for a newer one. Starfall Axial is a weapon drop from the major boss Star Devourer. As the name suggests, this weapon is extremely powerful and aids in both melee and spell casting.
For a more toned-down weapon, you can choose Gleaming Magnum Opus. This is dropped from some bosses in the late game. It has a high intelligence scaling which is ideal for astrologer builds.
Sorceries
Cosmic Flare is a good late-game spell. This is found in the Nexus of the Stars as a drop from enemies. As the name suggests, it deals with a lot of damage perfect for high-level enemies. You can also get a spell in the Volcano Manor area called Meteor. It is best used at large crowds of enemies by having meteors shower from above. The 2 best sorceries in the game however are Comet Azur and Stars of Ruin both of which you can get by locating Primeval Sorcerers Azur and Lusat.
Armor
For armor, the Azur glintstone set is the best one as it has the highest magic damage reversal. To find this set, finish the Sorceress Sellen’s Questline and look for the Primeval Sorcerer Azur’s and you’ll find this set in his location. If you go to Master Lusat’s location, you’ll find the Lusat’s Set which is only behind a few points in attributes. Both are almost similar thus being the best armour for astrologer builds.
