Many of you might not have ever heard of Warframe or maybe you did hear about it but you were too confused by the overwhelming size and complex mechanics the game appears to have at first glance. Well, I am not too different either. I had heard of Warframe and I knew it had been around for about a decade but I was not a fan of big MMO games. Warframe is just that a Big MMO game but it is also so much more. Here is what my personal experience playing Warframe in 2024 as a beginner was like.
Warframe is a free-to-play third-person action looter shooter game set in our Solar system. Warframe was released in 2013 and was a far cry from what it has evolved into over the last decade. It was only recently that the game transformed into an MMO with an open world and free-roam features.
Playing Warframe in 2024 as a Beginner
Booting up the Warframe, I had no expectation or clue of what I was getting myself into, no knowledge of lore or gameplay mechanics. All I knew was that we get to play as awesome mechanical ninjas with supercool movement. From the get-go, I was greeted with an amazing intro cinematic with some of the best visuals in modern action games which was enough to get me interested in the story behind the various warframes.
Starting Warframe
Right after the intro, you are asked to choose your starting Warframe. This turned out to be a much more important choice than I thought it would be. The 3 starter Warframes are Excalibur, Mag, and Volt. I picked Volt purely for a clip I saw of him zooming like Flash a while back. It was not until quite later that I realized changing your warframe or getting a new one takes a lot of time and grinding. Hence, I will be stuck with the warfame I chose for a good number of days.
Well, the good news is Volt is an amazing warframe in the game and I love using him. I have gotten to beating level 20 enemies with no problem in just 3 days of playing. Volt’s abilities are all amazing but my favorite one is his speed. I am currently modding Volt to have max speed and crit making him the ultimate speedster.

Gameplay
Purely from the gameplay perspective, there is something oddly addicting about Warframe. Right away I was hooked on the buttery smooth movement and the amazing Bullet-Jump. And I can’t stress how good the movement feels in this game. You will actually feel the speed when zooming through the missions.
Overall, Warframe follows the standard Looter-Shooter formula where you deploy on missions either solo or with a squad and complete various types of objects. Then you rinse and repeat until you have completed all the planets and nodes in the Star-chart. The game also has some Open-World areas where you can either free-roam or do bounty missions.
There is no endgame per se but the community widely agrees that the point of playing Warframe and the Endame is to get your Warframe as strong as possible while showing off an impeccable display of fashion.
Fashion-frame (Customization)
Speaking of Fashion, Warframe gives you an incredible level of customization. You can select primary, secondary, and tertiary colors and accents for your Warframe, equipment, and even your pets.
Although you will only have a limited number of colors unlocked for free, you can unlock more color palettes by spending Platinum.
If you are not great with colors but would still like to make your Warframe look good, simply hit random colors until you get a combination that works for you. You can then copy those colors to your equipment and attachments.
Crafting, Grinding, and Farming
I love survival games and have been playing Palworld and Enshrouded since the day they came out. Finding out that Warframe also has crafting and farming elements I was excited to try them out but I could not have been more wrong. Crafting in Warframe is unlike any other game. The main difference is the time it takes. While crafting in other games takes about a few minutes, in Warframe, it takes 3 days to craft a single Warframe. And that is in addition to the crafting and farming time it takes to get all 3 parts for a Warframe.
After I had done a few missions with Volt, I wanted to try a different Warframe so I asked around the community for help. And BTW Warframe has the best community in my MMO experience. I met several people who were kind enough to show me the ropes, carry me through tougher missions, and give me a ride to planets I had not unlocked yet. I learned that the first Warframe I can get is Rhino, all I had to do was to buy the Blueprints off the market and farm one boss on Venus for its parts. I have already crafted all 3 parts for Rhino–Chassis. Systems and Neuroptics and will have Rhino ready in about 2 days.
Joining a Clan
I was now finally at the point where I wanted to join a clan. Clans in Warframe are like guilds. You can make one of your own or join an existing one. If you just want to play casually for fun, I would recommend joining a clan with maxed research. You can simply do that by opening chat and heading to the recruitment tab and telling people you want to join a clan. You should receive an invite from someone soon enough.
There are several reasons to join a clan the most important one being trading. You will need to be in your clan dojo when you want to trade something and this is one of the ways you can earn Platinum which is the premium currency in Warframe. The clan I joined had hundreds of players from each region so there is always someone online to play with and it has breathtaking views. I am still not over this Shen Ron statue they had hidden in one of the rooms in the dojo.
Everything Good about Warframe in 2024
In conclusion, Warframe is one of the most addictive games I have played in recent years and despite being a decade-old game, it still holds up visually. The mechanics are buttery smooth and the game is beginner-friendly. In terms of gameplay variety, there are the standard missions you can do and then there are specific quests that offer an insight into the lore of the Warframe.
Aside from these missions and quests, there is a lot more you can do in this game. Warframe has developed into a world of its own, you do not just play it for the gameplay anymore. You can trade, farm, and build in this game with real people. Warframe has established its own economic system like Eve Online. Hence the most important factor of Warframe is its community.
Everything Bad about Warframe in 2024
Despite having sung its praises up till this point, I do have a few criticisms for the game as well. However, I am still in the early game and this perspective might change over time. The grind in this game is way too time-consuming. It takes about 4 days to craft a new Warframe and that is after you have farmed enough of the resources for it. Players can skip this crafting time by paying Platinum. Now this does not make it Pay-to-win but it does make it Pay-for-convenience. There is nothing inherently wrong with this but the craft times still do not need to be this long.
Another issue with Warframe is, that I will hold your hand for the first few missions but then you are on your own. There is no indication of what you need to do to continue, which quests you should do, what planets you should target, and most importantly, how to get a new Warframe. To learn all of this you will need to look up several articles on the internet. Despite being able to find some surface-level information from the community and the wiki, I still had a lot of questions that I could not find straightforward answers to. Therefore, I shall be making a guide on each of these, so if you are also just starting out with Warframe, be sure to bookmark us for more beginner-friendly guides.
