Skippy is one of the most popular iconic weapons in Cyberpunk. Aside from being an iconic smart pistol, what makes Skippy truly unique is its personality. Yes, Skippy is an AI-powered gun that can talk and sing your ears off when it’s not popping heads. In this guide, we will describe how you can find Skippy in Cyberpunk 2077 and permanently keep this talking handgun in your inventory while completing the associated quest.
Skippy is an incredibly smart AI weapon and will adjust its damage output relative to your player level in Cyberpunk. However, you cannot equip any mods to it or upgrade the weapon. Also do note that there used to be a glitch that would let you keep skippy after completing its quest. That has been patched since the Cyberpunk 2.0 update. There is still a way to keep the iconic weapon that will be discussed below.
How to get Skippy – Map Location
You can find Skippy in an alley in the Vista Del Rey area of Heywood District. You should be able to see an unidentified side quest marker on the map in this area. Head inside the alley by jumping over the fence. You will find Skippy on the floor next to a body. You can simply pick up the gun, and a smiling bullet hologram will pop out and start talking to you.
Cyberpunk 2077 Skippy Quest
Picking up Skippy in Cyberpunk 2077 will start a side quest called “Machine Gun”. After the hilarious and somewhat condescending introduction with Skippy the Talking Gun, it will inform you that it has no data about its original owner. V then suggests that they will take it and Skippy happily accepts.
The quest related to skippy will progress as you continue using the gun throughout your gameplay. You will eventually have to make a few tough choices that will affect Skippy’s performance and behavior and whether you can keep it or not.
Which Mode you should choose for Skippy
Stone Cold Killer or Puppy Loving Pacifist?
Before you can start using Skippy in a fight, it will ask you to choose between 2 modes of firing – Stone Cold Killer or Puppy-Loving Pacifist. Choosing Stone Cold Killer will make Skippy aim exclusively for headshots while choosing Puppy Loving Pacifist will make the gun non-lethal and only incapacitate enemies.
However, there is a trick to this choice as Skippy will change to whatever mode you did not select after killing or incapacitating 50 enemies. So, if you want skippy to permanently deal lethal damage, select the Puppy Loving Pacifist mode and incapacitate 50 enemies. After which Skippy will permanently switch to Stone Cold Killer mode. Thus, the trick is to choose the opposite of the mode you want.
Return Skippy to its owner or not?
Sometime after having switched modes, Skippy will tell you that its original owner is Regina Jones, a local fixer in Watson. Skippy will request that you deliver it back to its original owner. This is the last choice you have to make in the Skippy side quest. You can either choose to fulfill Skippy’s wish or disobey it and keep it for yourself.
OK, I’ll Take you To Regina | You will give Skippy to Regina and receive back a regular version of it after a few days without its AI component |
No. I’m Keeping you | You will keep Skippy permanently but it will scream at you whenever you try to use it. You can also put Skippy on your stash wall. |
How to permanently keep Skippy in Cyberpunk
If choose to give Skippy back to Regina, she will call you after a few in-game days and tell you that she lost the AI component for Skippy. She will offer you the gun for free but it will now be a regular smart gun without the talking capabilities. Alternatively, you can refuse to give it back and keep it for yourself but Skippy will become an annoying AI (Even more annoying than before) that will shout at you whenever you are trying to use it.
There may not be much point in using Skippy in either of these states but you can put it in your stash to display it on V’s stash Wall. However, if you want to keep Skippy in its unaltered form, you can simply choose the option to return the gun to Regina and never complete the final step in the side quest.
